Throttle Therapy - Real or Myth?
Throttle therapy, what is it? Is it real? Does it even work? Let’s break it down.
Firstly, throttle therapy is where you get on your bike and just ride to deal with whatever stress going on in your life. It doesn’t have to be riding at illegal speeds or poppin wheelies (although it can if you choose to - I don’t judge how you ride your bike, just stay safe).
Its just like any other hobby or activity people do for stress relief. I know people go jog, not for exercise (although it does keep them fit) but primarily to block out all the chaos of work and stress. Others hit the gym, go for a swim or surf. It’s the same principle. A distraction from the stress/anxiety, a way to calm down during heightened tension.
For me personally, riding has been an outlet for me during stressful times. When I get stress with work or personal issues, my mind races. I can’t help it, I’m constantly thinking of different scenarios, different ways to solve the issue - my brain won’t stop! Jumping on the bike seems to quell those thoughts. I think it's because I concentrate on riding, focusing on potential road hazards and just generally enjoying the feeling of wind rushing past me as the speed picks up. The bad thoughts and stress seem to melt away as my ride progresses and that’s a good thing as I calm down and control my emotions so I can think clearly.
So whatever it is for you, be it riding or jogging or gym or playing video games - if it helps then do it!
Stay safe out there
